		<description>Back in 2005, my brother approached me about collaborating on a suite of photographs -- he had an idea that combined my interest in images that are self-referential to the medium of photography and his interest in sculpting (see his "snow sculpture" paintings) . The resulting images are what we're calling, "Fistographs." These are camera-less images created in a photographic darkroom, made using a flashlight or a florescent tube of light and 8"x10" sheets of film. The film is simply crushed in the hand, and the flashlight is scanned all around our crushed fists holding the film. Resulting are color photographs containing reds from the blood of our hands, yellow or blue from the color temperature of the light used, and our fingerprints all over the image.

		<description>WILL &#38; TESTAMENT:

As part of my will and testament I establish the artwork – In Advance – as a present and future dying wish. I consider this artwork to be an absolute collaboration between willing proxies and myself, and is to be carried out post-mortem.

There is a photograph inside the green, Fuji film box. It is conceptually and literally my last photograph. This final image was shot on a sheet of 4x5 positive slide film and will remain a latent image until I die.

&#60;img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/16859/229259/InAdvance_2.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="445" align="left" /&#62;
Encased in this vitrine are objects that visually present the order needed to complete the development of my closing image. Upon my death, the E-6 chemistry is to be mixed and the latent image developed according to standard photo-processing procedure. Once my final image is processed and dry, the image will be displayed on the lightbox.

&#60;img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/16859/229259/InAdvance_1.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="438" align="left" /&#62;
As a way to convey the journey of the piece, after the work is fully carried out, the empty 4x5 film box is to be displayed with the lid open. In addition, the used containers of the E-6 chemistry kit should be displayed in the same formation and groupings as before, alongside the illuminating image.

Should the lightbox bulb burn out, a replacement can be found accompanying the work. This will ensure that the image will radiate until the film fades as I have faded.

&#60;img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/16859/229259/InAdvance_3.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="446" align="left" /&#62;

In Advance, latent image, E-6 chemistry, chemical trays, lightbox, will &#38; testament -- all encased inside a vitrine, atop a mortar stand, 72” x 36” x 15.5”, 2008-?

		<description>Most recently I have begun work on a soap opera video project called, My Falcon Crest (or MFC). As a personal recreation of the original episode that was airing on the day of my birth, from primetime 1980's melodrama, "Falcon Crest,” MFC’s conceptual premise derives from my discovery of my namesake coming from – not my own Heishman family lineage – but instead “Falcon Crest” soap character Chase Gioberti (played by actor Robert Foxworth). For MFC, select family members will be the voices to my characters, as I play the role of my fictitious “elder” and learn the commonalities I share with my namesake (much like I have in common with my father, my grandfather, my mother, stepmother, et cetera). By submitting to his tutelage, I hope to gain a sex appeal you can feel – I’ve already grown a beard – and also learn from his confident disposition and strong leadership. To date, MFC is a pleasant culmination of my artistic practice, bringing me closer to a union of artistic methodologies and personal history – all the while exploring narratively, deeper issues of identity, humor, and performance.

		<description>Over the course of the summer of 2005, I revisited writings I had read in the book Art in Theory: 1900 - 2000. Stemming from my revisit to this art historical material I began to notice that I am an avid underliner while I read. I would underline countless passages of information I found to be significant, defacing a written work with my scrawl of affirmation. What affected me with this process, however, was that as I turned the page, on the other side of the page would be an unanticipated underlined passage from the markings I made earlier. Discovering this, I decided to begin writing out the emergent passages to see what developed. A poetic form began to establish, where the content of the poems were sometimes in contrast to or in-line with the original author's content, while other generated poems conveyed something entirely new and different.

Here are some of the poetic, structural guidelines that began to emerge:

• Punctuation and lines were kept in the same format as found in the original text.
• If the underlining on both sides of the page overlapped, the sections were not used.
• Underlined sections that were blank on the opposite side of the paper created stanza breaks within the poem.

Compiled here on this website is a collection of nearly all of these discovered poems. I see this book not as a gathering of "found" poems, but instead I see these poems as text that was "finding" me. I managed to activate the text by choosing what I found to be significant in a given written work, but what was finding me were the poems themselves. They existed on the other end of my information grabbing (underlining), and allowed for a new, suggestive read.
